Upcoming Update to Content Performance "Views" Metric
Following a thorough analysis, we are implementing an update to the calculation of the "views" metric within the Content Performance dashboard. This enhancement aims to improve the value of the metric by aligning it more closely with real-world viewing behavior.
When the patch goes into place, historical data will also be affected. This is to ensure that numbers are comparable over time.
The updated definition of a view will be:
A user interaction occurring more than two minutes after the previous interaction. Instances where multiple play events occur in close succession (within two minutes) due to network issues or other factors will now be consolidated into a single view.
For example, a user initiating playback at 14:31:23 and then restarting at 14:31:45 on the same device will, under the new calculation, be counted as one view instead of two.
As a result of this change, you may observe a decrease in the reported "views" metric for some content. It is important to note that this update will not impact the reporting of unique users or hours viewed, which will remain unchanged.
This update is scheduled to go live in the coming weeks. We believe this refinement will provide a more accurate representation of content engagement.
Sincerely,
The Staylive Team
