Streaming - SRT

In addition to RTMP, we now also support SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) for live broadcasts.

This is a new launch that is not available on all platforms yet.

What is SRT and benefits:

  • A newer and more modern protocol in comparison to RTMP.
  • More reliable, better/securer if network at production or viewer is unstable. Adapts to network
  • Deliver a more stable broadcasting experience regardless of network

Small differences compared to RTMP:

  • SRT URL: srt://live.staylive.io:6001
  • RTMP URL: rtmp://live.staylive.io:5222/app
  • Stream Key/Broadcast Key: Longer keys than before for security (also applies to RTMP)
  • SRT Passphrase: Mandatory for SRT. Not for RTMP

The streaming details for SRT and RTMP can be found the exact same way in the Dashboard:

Content --> Livestreams --> Select broadcast in the overview

Stream health and Events, live broadcast.

  • Stream health: Presented slightly differently but with the addition of Audio bitrate
  • Events: Shows the progress of production, connection/disconnection and any drops in transmission

Note

  • If you choose to use SRT, you cannot simultaneously use RTMP.
