Streaming guide - FAQ

RTMP or SRT?

As of now we support RTMP.

How do I start broadcasting?

Manual production with camera and a streaming software.
Stream through your mobile phone or tablet with Staylive Broadcaster. We recommend you use a tripod to create a stable picture for the viewers. Staylive Broadcaster guide.

To make a good broadcast you must ensure that you have a good internet connection. Use a wired network that is not shared.
If you would like to test your connection you can do that on a speed test webpage. The speed should be at least 10 mbit/s upload.

Test streaming

It is always a good idea to set up a test stream where you try out your equipment and the streaming device. You do that easily by creating a stream in staylive dashboard, name it test and set it as private in options and preferences. This means that the stream won’t be visible on the platform. You can monitor the stream through our Staylive dashboard where you can watch the incoming signal and also get a preview of your stream.

Streaming with Staylive broadcaster app

Create your stream in the Staylive dashboard where you control the name of the stream, time, pricing etc. You are not able to create or change a stream in teh broadcaster app. The stream you would like to stream to is listed in the app.
The app will do an internet connection test to check your connection and the recommended quality. If you are unsure about if your internet connection is stable you can choose a lower quality. This can only be done before the livestream has started.
When you are streaming through wifi we recommend you using a closed wifi that is not shared in the arena or with others at the location. 2. Link to guide, step by step.

Streaming with an external camera

To get started you will need a computer, encoder, camera and a streaming software of your choice. Use a wired internet connection to make sure you have a stable connection throughout the stream.

If you would like to stream in full HD you use 1920x1080, you can use 1280x720 but we don’t recommend you go lower than that.

Size: 1920x1080
Bitrate: 4 500–9 000 kbps
FPS: 25 - 50
Keyframes: Every 2 seconds
Audio codec: aac
Profile: High 3.1

Do Staylive support h.265/HEVC?

Yes. HVEC is also known as h.265 which is a new compression standard. It replaces h.264 and the files become much smaller.

Can Staylive receive a 1080i signal?

Yes, we can receive 1080i, that is interlace which means that the whole production chain should be interlaced.
1080i = 720p in quality.

Our stream is lagging in Staylive. What can we do?

Lower the bitrate from example 8000kbps to 6000kbps.
Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
Explore where in the chain the issue is, always troubleshoot in the first line of the chain.

What video format does Staylive support?

We recommend uploading files in mp4.
